The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) has called on its wildlife rangers to continue protecting the country’s natural resources—wildlife, forests, and cultural heritage—with unwavering commitment and professionalism.

Speaking during the commemoration of World Rangers Day on July 31, 2025, NCAA Commissioner Abdul-razaq Badru said the role of rangers remains central to the conservation of Tanzania's biodiversity, and the authority recognizes their sacrifices.

The celebration, held at the livestock auction grounds in Karatu, Arusha Region, was marked by recognition of outstanding ranger efforts through certificates and cash rewards. Commissioner Badru praised the rangers for their relentless fight against poaching and other threats to the environment, saying their actions have saved critical wildlife and protected institutional assets.

Badru added that NCAA remains committed to improving ranger operations and equipping them to adapt to changes in science and technology in the conservation sector.

Senior Conservation Officer and Acting Manager for the Department of Protection Services, Linus Tiotem, highlighted the sacrifices made by rangers since the establishment of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

According to him, a total of 11 rangers have lost their lives over the years due to poaching, armed robbery, and attacks by wild animals.
