Zanzibar to boost public sector with tech, accountability and innovation

 Zanzibar, – Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening the public service sector through increased accountability, expanded use of digital technologies, and a push for innovation in service delivery.

Speaking at the official opening of the First Public Service Academic Symposium co-hosted by the Zanzibar Institute of Public Administration (IPA) and the Tanzania Public Service College (TPSC)  President Mwinyi underscored the public sector’s critical role in driving economic, social, and political development. The event took place at the Verde Hotel in Zanzibar’s Urban West Region.

Mwinyi praised the symposium’s theme, “The Role of Leadership, Technology, and Innovation in Achieving the Tanzania We Want,” noting its alignment with his administration’s broader reform agenda.

 “Digital transformation is central to our governance strategy. We are committed to leveraging ICT to eliminate inefficiencies, improve transparency, and deliver timely services to citizens,” Mwinyi said.

The president emphasized the need to cultivate a culture of innovation among civil servants, encouraging them to think beyond traditional approaches and embrace results-driven service models. 

He also called for unwavering integrity and patriotism among public servants to ensure delivery of quality services aligned with national development goals.

Zanzibar’s ongoing public sector reforms are part of a broader vision to modernize government institutions and create a more responsive, citizen-focused administration.
