Yanga target nine points to close out Tanzanian Premier League season

By Flora Mkoloma

Young Africans SC (Yanga) have set their sights on collecting all nine points from their remaining three matches in the 2024/2025 Tanzanian Premier League season.

The defending champions will begin their final stretch against Tanzania Prisons on June 18 at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.

That will be followed by a clash with Dodoma Jiji on June 22 at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar, before wrapping up the campaign with a much-anticipated match against rivals Simba SC on June 25 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking on June 15, 2026, to The Respondent Online, Yanga’s Media and Communications Manager, Ally Kamwe, said the team is in high spirits and preparations are progressing well as they push to secure the league title for a record-extending 31st time.

“Our preparations are on track and the players are highly motivated to give their best in the remaining matches. The focus now is on the Tanzania Prisons game, which is our first step toward achieving our target of nine points,” said Kamwe.

He also revealed that the team is expected to travel to Mbeya either tomorrow or the following day, as logistical arrangements are currently being finalized.

“We're facing three crucial matches—against Prisons, Dodoma Jiji, and Simba—and we’re determined to win all of them to retain our championship and also build momentum for the CRDB Federation Cup final,” he added.

Kamwe called on Yanga fans in Mbeya and surrounding regions to come out in large numbers to welcome and support the team, emphasizing that their presence will boost morale and inspire the players to deliver strong performances.
