Dodoma — President Samia Suluhu Hassan has called on the Judiciary of Tanzania to deliver timely and fair justice to all citizens, emphasizing that accountability and efficiency remain central in building public trust in the country’s judicial system.
Speaking at State House Chamwino today, President Samia made the remarks during the swearing-in ceremony of Justice George Mcheche Masaju as Tanzania’s new Chief Justice.
“The public expects to see the Judiciary serving all people equally and delivering justice without delays. Upholding accountability and ensuring efficiency are key to strengthening the confidence of citizens in the Judiciary,” President Samia said.
She reaffirmed the government’s continued commitment to work closely with the Judiciary to strengthen systems, improve infrastructure, and create a better working environment that supports effective service delivery.
President Samia also urged judges to continue upholding principles of justice with integrity and professionalism, noting that such values will further enhance the Judiciary’s reputation locally and globally.
Additionally, the President encouraged the Judiciary to advance the implementation of recommendations made by the Criminal Justice Commission, with a view to promoting the rule of law and good governance in the country.
The Head of State extended special appreciation to the retired Chief Justice, Prof. Ibrahim Hamis Juma, for his outstanding leadership in spearheading reforms that improved infrastructure, work systems, and operational efficiency within the Judiciary.
“Prof. Juma leaves behind a permanent mark in the Judiciary through the reforms he led, which have enhanced the institution’s performance and strengthened its foundations,” President Samia remarked.
Justice Masaju’s appointment marks a significant milestone, becoming the first Chief Justice to be sworn in at the Judiciary’s new headquarters in Dodoma, following its official relocation to the nation’s capital.
