Young Africans SC (Yanga) have cemented their position at the top of the NBC Tanzania Premier League table after a commanding 5-0 victory over Tanzania Prisons in a match played at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.
The victory sees Yanga reach 76 points from 28 matches, with just two games remaining in the 2024/2025 season. The win puts them in a strong position to clinch the league title.
Yanga got off to a confident start, opening the scoring in the 31st minute through midfielder Mudathir Yahya. Just four minutes later, playmaker Clatous Chama doubled the lead with a well-taken goal in the 35th minute, giving Yanga a comfortable 2-0 lead going into the halftime break.
Tanzania Prisons returned in the second half with renewed determination, working to close gaps and contain Yanga’s attacking threats.
However, their efforts were undone in the 56th minute when Pacome Zouzoua found the back of the net to make it 3-0.
Yanga continued to pile on the pressure. In the 61st minute, Israel Mwenda scored the fourth goal, before Zouzoua added his second of the match in the 75th minute to complete the rout.
The full-time whistle confirmed a dominant 5-0 win for Yanga, who not only secured all three points on the road but also sent a strong message to their title rivals.With two games left in the season, Yanga stands firmly in control of their championship destiny.
