Dar es Salaam– Following Yanga SC's declaration that they would boycott the CRDB Federation Cup final over unpaid prize money from the previous season, both CRDB Bank and the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) have issued statements clarifying the situation.
Yanga SC is slated to compete against Singida Black Stars in the final on June 28th in Zanzibar.
In a statement released today, June 10, 2025, CRDB Bank's Department of Communications and Public Relations affirmed its commitment to professionalism and adherence to regulations.
The bank stated it had already disbursed the prize money to the TFF as the main sponsor of the tournament.
The statement also highlighted football's role in social cohesion and youth employment, reiterating CRDB's dedication to collaborating with TFF, clubs, and other stakeholders to advance football development in Tanzania.
Concurrently, TFF Communications Officer, Clifford Mario Ndimbo, publicly confirmed CRDB's role as the primary sponsor and asserted that TFF has consistently upheld its contractual obligations.
Ndimbo revealed that for the 2023/2024 season, CRDB had provided a total of TZS 255 million for the tournament's management and operations.
Addressing Yanga's specific claim of TZS 200 million in championship prize money, Ndimbo stated that, contrary to Yanga's assertion, TFF is in fact owed money by the club.
He explained that Yanga had previously submitted a written request for their prize money from various competitions to be withheld to offset debts owed to TFF, including those related to foreign player payments.
To resolve the public confusion, TFF has formally invited Yanga's financial expert to their offices tomorrow, June 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM, to review all pertinent documents and verify the club's outstanding debt.
TFF concluded by reaffirming its commitment to effective football management and safeguarding the reputation of its sponsors.
