The Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) has embarked on a nationwide training programme aimed at equipping teachers of Business and Entrepreneurship with the necessary skills to effectively implement the recently revised national curriculum.
Speaking during the ongoing ten-day training at Korogwe Teachers’ College in Tanga Region, TIE Curriculum Developer Mr. Hemed Mdee said the programme is tailored to strengthen teachers’ capacity to deliver student-centred and competence-based instruction.
“The purpose of this specialised training is to enhance teachers’ understanding and application of modern teaching methodologies so that they can confidently and effectively deliver the intended curriculum content,” Mr. Mdee said.
According to him, similar training sessions are simultaneously being conducted in Morogoro and Tabora regions, with plans to reach all regions across the country.
Mr. Mdee emphasised that the focus is not only on content delivery but also on sharpening pedagogical approaches that empower learners with practical skills and critical thinking.
“This training will ensure teachers acquire the technical know-how to facilitate learning that aligns with the national education reform agenda,” he added.
Participants have expressed optimism about the potential impact of the training on classroom outcomes. Ms. Judith Mwalyego, a teacher and water resource specialist, said the programme has come at a crucial time as the education sector shifts toward competency-based learning.
“These sessions are giving us the clarity and tools we need to plan and deliver lessons effectively under the revised curriculum. It’s a game-changer in how we approach teaching,” she said.
Another trainee, Mr. Halfani Mahamudu a laboratory technician and teacher commended the government for its commitment to improving the education system.
“The updated curriculum and these training sessions are essential. We are now better prepared to return to our schools and apply new teaching techniques that will benefit our students,” he said.
The ongoing training is part of broader government efforts to align teaching and learning with Tanzania’s development vision by fostering innovation, practical skills, and entrepreneurship in schools.
The curriculum reform and training rollout reaffirm Tanzania’s commitment to improving education quality through teacher empowerment and learner-focused instruction.
