The 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) is currently underway in Arusha, marking a significant moment in the continent’s ongoing fight against corruption.

The week-long meeting, which runs from June 16 to 21, 2025, is being held at the AUABC headquarters in Arusha.

A key highlight of the session was the swearing-in of newly appointed Board members, including Tanzania’s own  Benjamin Kapera.

Kapera, an official at the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (TAKUKURU), was elected to the AUABC on February 13, 2025, during an AU summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

He now joins a team of respected professionals from across Africa committed to strengthening integrity and accountability on the continent. Other newly sworn-in members include Dr. Graciano Domingos of Angola and Hon. Absatou Ly Diallo of Senegal.

In addition to welcoming new members, the Board also held elections for its leadership positions.  Kwami Senanu of Ghana was elected Chairperson, Yvonne Chibiya of Zambia as Vice Chairperson, and  Principe Ntibasume of Burundi as Secretary. The leadership will serve a two-year term, while Board members are expected to serve for six years.

The AUABC plays a vital role in promoting the implementation of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption. Tanzania’s representation through  Kapera is a point of pride and reflects the country’s commitment to transparency and good governance at the continental level.

This session not only underscores Africa's unified stance against corruption but also positions Arusha and by extension, Tanzania as a hub for governance and integrity in Africa.
