Tanzania Premier League Clubs urged to voluntarily pay their taxes

The Chief Executive Officer of the Tanzania Premier League Board, Mr. Almas Kasongo, has called on football clubs participating in the Tanzania Premier League to voluntarily fulfill their tax obligations to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in a bid to strengthen the country’s sports infrastructure.

Mr. Kasongo made the appeal on June 4, 2025, during a tax seminar jointly organized by the TRA and the Premier League Board. 

The seminar, which brought together Chief Executive Officers from Premier League clubs across Mainland Tanzania, was officially opened by the Board Chairman, Mr. Steven Mnguto.

He emphasized that tax compliance by football clubs is essential for addressing the pressing challenges facing the local football industry and for advancing modern infrastructure development, including the construction and upgrading of stadiums.

"Today, we face numerous infrastructure challenges in our stadiums and football systems. To overcome these issues and develop our game, we must commit to paying taxes," said Mr. Kasongo.

Also speaking at the seminar, the CEO of Kagera Sugar Football Club, Mr. Thabit Kandoro, acknowledged the value of the session and emphasized the importance of cooperation with TRA. 

He encouraged the authority to provide clubs with more opportunitis for direct engagement with its officers to foster better understanding of how football clubs operate.e
