The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Dr. Samwel Shelukindo, recently met with the Brazilian Ambassador to Tanzania, His Excellency Gustavo Martins Nogueira, at the Ministry’s satellite offices in Dar es Salaam.
The meeting aimed to explore avenues for deepening diplomatic cooperation to foster mutual development and prosperity for both countries.
During the discussions, Ambassador Shelukindo highlighted Brazil’s significant achievements in social development, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, healthcare services, and sports, which have inspired Tanzania and revealed further opportunities for enhanced collaboration.
He emphasized that the manufacturing and assembly of vehicles particularly modern electric and gas-powered buses is a strategic sector Tanzania intends to expand through bilateral cooperation, promoting sustainable transportation for its citizens.
“Major companies such as Marcopolo should consider establishing operations in Tanzania to accelerate our country’s capacity in vehicle manufacturing and assembly, especially modern buses. This initiative will enable both nations to strengthen trade and investment ties,” Ambassador Shelukindo explained.
Additionally, in efforts to boost sports and cultural diplomacy, Ambassador Shelukindo proposed launching investment projects, including the establishment of state-of-the-art sports universities. Renowned Brazilian athletes like Ronaldo Nazário could participate as coaches, contributing significantly to the development of the sector through football.
On his part, Brazilian Ambassador Gustavo Martins Nogueira praised Tanzania for its robust partnership with Brazil and pledged to further enhance cooperation in defense and security, military training, combating illegal maritime activities, agricultural development particularly cotton and investment in the livestock sector, with a focus on meat production.
