Tanzania is fast-tracking plans to provide electricity to every household by 2030 under the Africa-wide Mission 300 initiative, which aims to connect 300 million people to power across the continent.
Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felichesmi Mramba, recently met with senior officials from the World Bank during the Africa Energy Forum in Cape Town, South Africa, to review Tanzania’s progress and discuss support for the initiative.
Engineer Mramba said Tanzania has integrated Mission 300 into its national development agenda after the plan was endorsed by African leaders earlier this year.
The government aims to increase electricity access from the current 78.4 percent to 100 percent by 2030. It also targets raising clean cooking energy usage to 75 percent by the same year.
World Bank representatives, including Executive Manager for Southern and Eastern Africa, Ms. Yadviga Semikolenova, and Senior Energy Specialist Dr. Rhonda Antoine, praised Tanzania’s commitment and efforts to ensure reliable energy for all citizens.
They pledged continued support to help the country achieve its goals.
The meeting also involved experts from TANESCO, the Rural Energy Agency, the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation, and the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority, highlighting strong collaboration across key institutions.
The partnership between Tanzania and the World Bank marks a significant step toward increasing access to clean and affordable energy, which is essential for economic growth and improved living standards.
