TANESCO wins award for environmental efforts in JNHPP project

 The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has been honored with a prestigious Environmental Conservation Award during the climax of the National Environment Week celebrations, held today, June 5, 2025, in Dodoma.

The award recognizes TANESCO’s outstanding efforts in promoting environmental sustainability through the implementation of the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP).

 The project has consistently adhered to environmental protection standards while significantly contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The award was presented by the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania,  Dr. Philip Mpango, and received by TANESCO’s Managing Director, Mr. Lazaro Twange, during the official closing ceremony of the event.

Through its active participation in the exhibitions and celebrations, TANESCO reaffirmed its firm commitment to executing large-scale power projects with a strong focus on environmental stewardship. 

This includes the JNHPP and other initiatives designed to deliver long-term benefits for current and future generations.
