The Election Committee of the Tanzania Athletics Federation (RT) is expected to convene this week to assess progress and streamline preparations for the federation’s general elections, slated for August 16, 2025, in Mwanza.
The nomination process is already underway, with candidates collecting forms for various leadership positions. The deadline for submission of completed forms is July 18.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, Committee Chairperson Leonard Thadeo said preparations for the meeting are in progress and that the exact date and venue will be confirmed shortly.
“We are finalizing preparations and expect to meet either tomorrow or the day after. I’ll confirm the time and location once arrangements are complete,” Thadeo said.
He added that the meeting will review candidates who have collected nomination forms so far and deliberate on other key issues related to the election process.
Positions up for grabs include the RT President and Vice President, with nomination fees set at TSh 500,000.
Those seeking seats on the Executive Committee are required to pay TSh 200,000, while candidates for special seats will also be considered under set conditions.
The upcoming meeting is seen as a critical step in ensuring a smooth, transparent, and credible election, as the federation prepares to usher in new leadership that will shape the future of athletics in Tanzania.
