The government has officially launched the nationwide distribution of textbooks for Form Five and Six students under the newly improved curriculum, marking a significant step in efforts to enhance the quality of secondary education in Tanzania.
The four-day exercise began on June 24, 2025, at the Tanzania Institute of Education (TET) warehouse in External, Dar es Salaam, with the initial focus on public schools in the Dar es Salaam and Coast regions.
According to Emmanuel Stanslaus, Manager for Publishing and Distribution of Educational Materials at TET, the exercise aims to ensure that all 668 government secondary schools across the country receive the new curriculum books in time for the beginning of the school term.
“Our goal is to support the effective implementation of the improved curriculum by making these textbooks available ahead of school reopening. We urge headteachers to collect the books promptly at designated centres to ensure smooth delivery and use,” he said.
The move has been welcomed by school leaders and teachers, who view the timely distribution as a crucial intervention in bridging learning gaps and improving academic outcomes.
Jericko Kisama Rodgers, a teacher from Mwanalugali Secondary School in Kibaha Town Council, Coast Region, noted that the books have arrived at a critical moment.
“With Form Five and Six students about to report back to school, having these books available will improve teaching efficiency and enable learners to better engage with the new curriculum,” he said.
Janeth Binagi, Deputy Head of Goba Secondary School in Dar es Salaam, praised the government’s continued investment in education, particularly under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
“This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to transforming the education sector. As teachers, we remain committed to delivering quality education and supporting this national vision,” she said.
The rollout of the improved curriculum textbooks underscores ongoing reforms aimed at modernising the country’s education system and preparing students with relevant skills for the future.
