President Samia recognized for prioritizing elderly welfare and healthcare

Elderly citizens across Tanzania have extended their heartfelt appreciation to Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, for her outstanding efforts in improving health and welfare services for older persons.

The commendation was made by Mr. Tadey Mchena, National Chairperson of the Council of Elders of Tanzania (CCWWT), during a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Dr. John Jingu, held on June 4, 2025, in Dodoma.

Mr. Mchena praised the progress made under President Samia’s leadership over the past four years, particularly in facilitating access to quality healthcare services for the elderly through the provision of health insurance cards.

“We sincerely thank Her Excellency the President for her unwavering commitment to the welfare of the elderly. On numerous occasions, she has shown that we are a valued part of society especially by prioritizing our access to healthcare and other essential services,” Mchena stated.

In response, Dr. Jingu affirmed the government's dedication to supporting the elderly, emphasizing their role as a national asset.

“The Ministry greatly values your contribution to the nation and remains committed to ensuring you continue to receive the services and support you deserve,” said Dr. Jingu.

 “We have received your recommendations, and we will take action to further improve the quality of life for older persons throughout the country.”he added

Dr. Jingu also provided the elders with informative materials, including guidelines and booklets on the rights and well-being of older persons, encouraging them to read and share the knowledge with both members and non-members of their association.
