Itilima District residents in Simiyu Region are celebrating a major milestone in healthcare access following the official launch of a new state-of-the-art district hospital by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

The hospital, which cost TSh 4.7 billion to construct and equip, was inaugurated on the third day of President Samia’s working tour of Simiyu Region.

The project is part of the Government's ongoing efforts to expand access to quality healthcare services across the country.

Speaking during the inauguration, President Samia reaffirmed her administration's commitment to ensuring that Tanzanians receive essential services closer to home.

“I am very pleased with the modern design of this hospital and how the funds have been used. This facility has everything a hospital should have to provide comprehensive care,” said the President, as residents cheered in support.

The Itilima District Hospital is among several hospitals being constructed across the country under the Government’s ambitious health sector expansion strategy. These efforts aim to reduce the distance many citizens have to travel to receive medical care, especially in rural areas.

President Samia assured residents that her government will continue investing in health, infrastructure, and social services to improve the quality of life for all Tanzanians.

Deogratius Ndejembi, Minister for Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements Development speaking on behalf of  Mohamed Mchengerwa, Minister of State, President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government revealed that the Government allocated TSh 1.34 trillion to the health sector for the construction of hospitals, health centers, and the procurement of medical equipment across 184 local government authorities.

He further noted that road infrastructure in Itilima District has seen major improvements under President Samia’s leadership. The district’s road development budget has increased from TSh 800 million in 2021 to TSh 2.5 billion, making roads accessible year-round and boosting local connectivity.

Local residents have warmly welcomed these developments, praising the President for her inclusive and transformative leadership.

“The Sixth Phase Government under Mama Samia has brought real change in a short time. We’ve seen major improvements in health, education, electricity, infrastructure, and even water services,” said Anna Masanja, a resident of Itilima.

“She has truly honored us by delivering on her promises. We feel seen, heard, and cared for,” added Buliga Amos, a resident of neighboring Meatu District.

As the President continues her tour of the Simiyu Region, the impact of her leadership is being felt not only in infrastructure but in the hopes and lives of everyday Tanzanians.
