Member of the National Executive Council (NEC)of the ruling party CCM, Ndele Mwaselela, has called on politicians to exercise caution and responsibility in their public statements as the country approaches the 2025 General Election, warning that reckless language could undermine national peace and unity.

Speaking in Mbeya on Saturday, June 22, 2025, during a special intercessory prayer service for the nation and its leaders led by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Mwaselela said politicians must use their platforms to promote harmony rather than provoke tension.

“As we move closer to the elections, my fellow politicians, let us be careful with our tongues. The words we speak on our platforms have the power to either build or burn. We must protect the peace we’ve worked so hard to maintain,” said Mwaselela at the event held at the Mkapa Hall.

He urged religious leaders and citizens of faith to continue praying for national stability and for President Samia, asking for God’s guidance and wisdom as she leads the country through a critical electoral period.

Mwaselela also emphasized the need for electing leaders with integrity and vision. “We are heading into a competitive election. As CCM, we must seek leaders who fear God, who are guided by purpose, and who are committed to solving the real challenges facing our people,” he said.

The CCM executive added that prayers were essential in ensuring the country elects not just any leaders, but capable and ethical ones who align with the party’s core values and the country’s development goals.

In a show of support for the faith community, Mwaselela donated TSh 2 million to support gospel work and choir services in the Mbeya region, underscoring his belief in the role of the Church in preserving social cohesion.

His message comes at a time when political activity is intensifying across the country, with concerns growing over inflammatory speech and its potential impact on the peace that Tanzania has long enjoyed.
