Mlandege Football Club has been crowned champions of the 2024/25 Zanzibar Premier League following a commanding 4-2 win over New City FC in the final match of the season, held earlier today in Zanzibar.

The historic club, one of the most decorated in Zanzibar football, showcased its dominance early in the match.

Forward Abdallah Mtumwa opened the scoring in the 15th minute, before doubling the lead with a second goal in stoppage time of the first half (45+2), giving Mlandege a 2-0 cushion at the break.

Momentum remained firmly with Mlandege in the second half, with midfielder Saidi Matola adding a third goal in the 79th minute. Matola struck again in the 85th to all but seal the outcome for the champions-elect.

New City mounted a late response, scoring twice in added time first through Khamis Ali in the 90+2 minute, followed by a goal from Shaban Gedo in the 90+3. However, the comeback proved too little, too late.

The result confirms Mlandege as the 2024/25 Zanzibar Premier League champions, capping a season marked by consistency and attacking prowess.

The title win adds to the club’s storied legacy in East African football and secures their spot in upcoming regional competitions.
