The Minister for Minerals,Anthony Peter Mavunde, on Saturday launched the Madini Bonanza in Dodoma, rallying institutions under his ministry to strengthen collaboration, wellness, and unity through sport.

The event, held at John Merlin Grounds, brought together staff from key minerals sector institutions in a colourful ceremony that blended sporting enthusiasm with institutional solidarity.

“This Bonanza is more than just a sporting competition,” said Mavunde. “It’s about building a culture of teamwork, wellness, and discipline that reflects the strength and unity of our sector.”

Participating institutions include the Mining Commission, State Mining Corporation (STAMICO), Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST), Tanzania Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (TEITI), and the Tanzania Gemmological Centre (TGC). They will compete in football, netball, athletics, and traditional games over the weekend.

According to the minister, the Bonanza complements broader government efforts to promote a positive working environment and support the physical and mental well-being of public servants, especially in high-impact sectors like mining.

“Sport fosters not only health but connection. It brings us together beyond offices and job titles,” he noted.

The minister was joined by senior officials, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Eng. Yahya Samamba; Commissioner for Minerals, Dr. Abdulrahman Mwanga; Chairperson of the Mining Commission, Dr. Janet Lekashingo; and the Executive Secretary of the Mining Commission, Eng. Ramadhani Lwamo.

Their attendance signaled the event’s importance, not only as a celebration but also as a platform for informal engagement among sector leaders and staff.

With the mining industry playing an increasingly vital role in Tanzania’s economy, such events serve as a reminder that productivity and unity go hand-in-hand.The Bonanza is expected to become an annual feature in the ministry’s calendar.
