The Judiciary of Tanzania has announced that the proceedings of Criminal Cases No. 8506/2025 and 8607/2025, involving the Republic versus Tundu Antipas Lissu, scheduled for mention and hearing on Monday, June 2, 2025, at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam, will be broadcast live to the public.
Despite the accused being physically present in court, the Judiciary emphasized that the full proceedings will be streamed live to ensure wider public access and engagement.
The initiative is in line with the Judiciary’s Strategic Plan, which aims to promote transparency, accountability, and the use of technology in the administration of justice.
“The purpose of live streaming these proceedings is to enable citizens, wherever they may be, to follow the court process without the need to attend in person,” Gelfard Julius Chami, Head, Public Communication Services Unit Judiciary of Tanzania said in a public statement.
Due to limited space, the courtroom at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court accommodates only 80 individuals.
The seating arrangement will be distributed as follows: government prosecutors and ten guests, defense lawyers and sixty guests, and ten journalists.
The Judiciary noted that the Kisutu court hosts over ten magistrates handling various cases simultaneously.
Therefore, members of the public interested in following the high-profile cases are encouraged to watch the live proceedings via the Judiciary’s official digital platforms.
The streaming link will be shared before 8:30 a.m. on June 2, 2025, through the Judiciary's social media pages and official website: www.judiciary.go.tz.
The Judiciary reaffirmed its commitment to delivering justice that is open, timely, and accessible to all.
“We urge all citizens to continue supporting efforts to build a justice system grounded in the principles of the Constitution, laws, regulations, and established guidelines,” the statement added.
Attendees at the Kisutu court are also reminded to observe all health precautions related to infectious diseases, as per the Public Notice issued by the Ministry of Health on May 20, 2025.
