The Minister of State in the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), Mohamed Mchengerwa, has expressed his gratitude to the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan for allocating over TZS 6 trillion to improve essential services and enhance the lives of Tanzanians.
Minister Mchengerwa conveyed his appreciation on June 18, 2025, during the summary meeting of President Samia's official working tour in Simiyu Region, where she inspected various development projects before addressing thousands of residents.
This marked the fourth day of President Samia's tour, which included visits to Bariadi, Meatu, Itilima, and Maswa districts.
In his preliminary report on key sectors such as education, health, and infrastructure, Minister Mchengerwa praised the President for her outstanding commitment and investment in these areas during her relatively short time in office.
“Your Excellency, I must say that the people love you immensely because of your tremendous work. Your leadership has built strong public trust and left a lasting mark that will be remembered for generations,” said Minister Mchengerwa.
He further emphasized that the late Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, once said that "development is about people", a philosophy President Samia has effectively upheld and advanced.
On healthcare, he highlighted the government’s significant achievements, including the construction of dispensaries, health centers, and hospitals across the country.
He cited Simiyu Region as a key example, receiving TZS 46.7 billion for infrastructure and medical equipment, including the construction of 6 hospitals, 16 health centers, and the provision of 14 ambulances.
Regarding education, the Minister noted that the government allocates approximately TZS 40 billion monthly to support the sector. Simiyu Region alone has received TZS 28.2 billion for the construction of 41 schools and 634 classrooms.
In addition, TZS 14.1 billion has been allocated to the region for the construction of administrative buildings to bring services closer to the people.
He also mentioned that TZS 3.9 billion has been distributed to empower 420 community groups across the region.
On road infrastructure, the government has allocated TZS 72.489 billion to construct a road network covering a total of 4,163 kilometers.
Minister Mchengerwa also revealed that President Samia has approved the construction of a modern market in Bariadi under the Urban Development Project implemented by PO-RALG.
The project, which includes an 8.6-kilometer road section, will cost TZS 26 billion, with the contract expected to be signed on June 25, this year.
The President has also directed that inner-city roads be constructed and fitted with streetlights to support business operations even at night.
Concerning access to loans, President Samia has instructed officials to ease borrowing conditions to enable more citizens to access credit facilities.
