The government has urged Regional Information Officers to intensify the promotion of the Generation Equality Programme in a bid to advance gender equality and economic rights across the country.
Speaking in Dodoma yesterday, the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Mr Merkion Ndofi, said information officers play a critical role in ensuring that the public is well-informed about national programmes and their potential impact.
Mr Ndofi noted that the Generation Equality Programme, now marking its fifth year, is a reflection of Tanzania’s commitment to global efforts to eliminate gender-based disparities.
He recalled that President Samia Suluhu Hassan participated in the Generation Equality Forum held in Paris, where she pledged Tanzania’s leadership in promoting gender equality and inclusive economic development.
The programme focuses on four strategic areas: promoting gender equality within the private sector; ensuring decent work for women in both formal and informal sectors; improving women’s access to productive resources; and encouraging innovation and implementation of women-led economic initiatives.
Mr Ndofi commended the officers for their attendance and thanked their respective institutions for recognising the value of communication in advancing national development goals.
Director of the Gender Development Department, Ms Badru Abdnoor, called on the officers to be proactive in amplifying the programme’s objectives so that communities are aware of the opportunities available to them and can participate meaningfully.
Her remarks were echoed by the Assistant Director for Community Development, Ms Juliana Kibonde, who affirmed that the government recognises the vital role of communication in social transformation. She said the forum was organised to facilitate a shared understanding on how best to publicise the programme effectively.
Regional Information Officers in attendance expressed their commitment to taking the message to the grassroots level, ensuring citizens in their respective regions understand the purpose and benefits of the Generation Equality Programme, particularly in fostering gender equality and inclusive growth in all spheres of society.
