Egyptian Referees appointed for high-stakes Kariakoo Derby

As the curtain closes on the 2024/2025 NBC Premier League season, anticipation is reaching fever pitch ahead of the much-anticipated Kariakoo Derby between traditional rivals Yanga SC and Simba SC, scheduled for Tuesday, June 25, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) has confirmed that a team of referees from Egypt will officiate the match, underscoring the significance and intensity of the fixture that will decide this season's league champion.

Leading the officiating team will be experienced Egyptian referee Amin Mohamed Omar, who will serve as the center referee. 

He will be tasked with enforcing the 17 Laws of the Game and ensuring fair play in what is expected to be a fiercely contested encounter.

Omar will be assisted on the lines by Mohamoud Ahmed Abo El Regal and Samir Gamal Saad Mahammed, while Ahmed Marhrous Elghandour will serve as the fourth official all hailing from Egypt.

TPLB has also appointed Salim Omary Singano from Tanga as the match commissioner, and Ali Mohamed from Somalia will assess the performance of the referees.

The appointment of foreign officials for this crucial clash reflects the league’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in domestic football.

The Kariakoo Derby remains one of the most iconic and fiercely contested football rivalries in Africa, drawing millions of fans across the continent. With the league title on the line, tomorrow’s match promises to be a thrilling showdown.
