Dr. Yonazi is in Geneva to lead Tanzania’s delegation to the Eighth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, which is being held from June 2 to 6, 2025.

He is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes the Director of the Disaster Management Department, Brigadier General Hosea Ndagala; the Director of Administration and Human Resource Management in the Prime Minister’s Office, Ms. Stella Mwaiswaga; the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Charles Msangi; and the Assistant Director for Research in the Disaster Management Department, Mr. Vonyvaco Luvanda.

During his visit to the Mission, Dr. Yonazi held discussions with Tanzania’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Dr. Abdallah Possi.

He emphasized that Tanzania’s participation in the Global Platform is not only timely but also strategically important in strengthening the country's disaster risk management framework.

“The forum presents a valuable opportunity for Tanzania to assess progress, exchange experiences, and explore innovative approaches to disaster risk reduction in line with voluntary commitments under the UN system,” said Dr. Yonazi.

He also commended the efforts of the Embassy and expressed Tanzania’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with Switzerland, particularly in areas of mutual interest such as trade, investment, and emerging technologies.

On his part, Ambassador Dr. Possi applauded Tanzania’s active participation in the Global Platform and reaffirmed the Mission’s readiness to support government efforts in seizing opportunities that emerge from such international engagements.

“Tanzania’s continued involvement in these global discussions is essential for maintaining momentum and ensuring the country remains well-positioned to benefit from multilateral partnerships and knowledge exchange,” he said.

The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction serves as the world’s foremost gathering of stakeholders committed to building resilience and reducing the impact of disasters.

Tanzania's presence underscores its dedication to implementing effective disaster risk management strategies and building a safer, more resilient nation.
