Airtel Tanzania has confirmed its position as the second-largest dividend payer to the Government of Tanzania for the fiscal year 2024/25, handing over TZS 73.9 billion during the Annual Dividend Day event held at the State House in Dar es Salaam.

The event, presided over by President Samia Suluhu Hassan and organized by the Treasury Registrar’s Office, brought together key public and private sector stakeholders to recognize dividend contributions totaling an estimated TZS 1.28 trillion from various entities this year.

President Hassan praised the private sector’s role in driving national development, describing the dividend payouts as a testament to effective public-private partnerships.

“This event underscores the commitment of public institutions in advancing Tanzania’s development agenda,” she said. “Annual Dividend Day will be institutionalized to enhance transparent engagement with the private sector and promote sustainable economic growth.”

Airtel Tanzania, in which the government holds a 49% stake, has contributed over TZS 280 billion in dividends since 2019 through its operations, including Airtel Money Tanzania Limited.

The company’s strong financial performance reflects its ongoing investment in expanding digital infrastructure and enabling inclusive access to digital services across the country.

Speaking at the event, Airtel Tanzania Chairman Eliudi Sanga said the firm remains dedicated to supporting the country’s socio-economic transformation. “Our investments align with the government’s national priorities, driving the digital economy and promoting inclusive growth,” Sanga said.

Airtel Tanzania Managing Director Charles Kamoto reiterated the company’s commitment to sustainable growth, noting that dividend contributions reflect a successful partnership between government policy and private sector innovation.

“We are proud to continue investing in network expansion, affordable devices, and digital platforms that empower Tanzanians,” Kamoto added.

The substantial dividend payout highlights Airtel’s role as a key player in Tanzania’s rapidly evolving telecommunications sector and its contribution to the government’s revenue base.
