The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has described the upcoming “Match of The Legends” as a powerful platform to showcase the island's capability to host major international events particularly the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking to the press on May 15, 2025, in Zanzibar, the Minister of Tourism and Heritage, Mudrick Ramadhan Soraga, emphasized the government's commitment and preparedness for such a prestigious event.
“This match is not just a game; it’s a global statement. It reflects how far Zanzibar has come in terms of infrastructure, coordination, and ambition. We are ready,” said Minister Soraga.
He highlighted a recent partnership with Tanzanian football giants Yanga SC to promote tourism under the Visit Zanzibar campaign.
“The involvement of Yanga SC in ‘Match of The Legends’ brings added value and appeal to the event. It will be a spectacle unlike any other,” Soraga noted.
Yanga SC President, Eng. Hersi Said, also addressed the media, applauding Zanzibar President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi for his unwavering efforts to elevate Zanzibar’s global profile through sports and tourism.
“Our participation in this historic event is aimed at enhancing its impact. Yanga SC is fully committed we are supporting the promotion, sending staff, and ensuring the match runs smoothly,” said Eng. Said.
He went on to confirm that football icon Ronaldinho Gaucho, along with other legendary players, will grace the pitch in what promises to be a once in a lifetime experience for fans.
“This is more than just a match it’s a historic moment for Zanzibar. Welcoming Ronaldinho and other legends to our shores is a dream come true,” he added.
Eng. Said extended an open invitation to football fans across Tanzania and the African continent to travel to Zanzibar and witness the unforgettable event.
“Every football lover deserves the chance to watch Ronaldinho live right here in Zanzibar, from the stands. It will be a moment to remember.”
