Visa names Victor Makere as country manager for four East African countries

Dar es Salaam, 12 May 2025 – Visa, a global digital payments, facilitating transactions between consumers, merchants, financial institutions, and government entities has appointed Victor Makere as its new Country Manager for Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, and Rwanda. 

The move is part of Visa’s plan to grow its business and strengthen digital payments across East Africa.

In his new role, Victor will lead Visa’s operations in the four countries. 

He will focus on building strong client relationships, increasing revenue, and expanding access to digital payment solutions. He will also help launch new products and services in the region.

Chad Pollock, Visa’s Vice President and General Manager for East Africa, welcomed the appointment.

“We are excited to have Victor join our team. His experience in digital finance and business development makes him a great fit. We believe he will help us grow digital payments and support financial inclusion across the region,” Pollock said.

Victor has years of experience in mobile money, banking, and digital payment systems. Before joining Visa, he was Head of Merchant Payments at Airtel Money Tanzania. There, he helped grow mobile and merchant payments. He also held senior roles at CRDB Bank and Standard Chartered Bank in Tanzania.

At CRDB, Victor worked with the Tanzania Bankers Association to improve digital payment systems. He played a key role in promoting interoperability, making it easier for people to send and receive money across different banks and mobile networks.

Victor is excited about his new role.

I look forward to working with clients and partners to offer safe and simple payment solutions that support businesses and communities.”

His appointment comes at a time when digital payments are growing fast in East Africa. With Victor on board, Visa hopes to make payments even more accessible, secure, and inclusive for everyone.
