Twiga Stars shine bright with 2-1 victory over DR Congo

The Tanzania Women’s National Football Team, Twiga Stars, kicked off their international calendar in style with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo in a FIFA-sanctioned friendly match held today at the Azam Complex Stadium in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam.

The match began with both sides showing great composure and tactical discipline. For the first 27 minutes, the teams were evenly matched, each working hard to maintain a solid defense and prevent early goals.

In the 28th minute, Tanzania took the lead through a brilliant strike by Clara Luvanga, sending the home crowd into celebration. The Twiga Stars maintained their advantage until halftime, going into the break with a 1-0 lead.

The second half saw renewed intensity from DR Congo, and in the 72nd minute, Esther Dakisha leveled the score with a well-taken goal, setting up a dramatic finale.

With just two minutes left on the clock, Clara Luvanga once again rose to the occasion, scoring her second goal of the match in the 88th minute to restore Tanzania’s lead.

The final whistle confirmed a 2-1 win for Tanzania, marking a promising start for the Twiga Stars in their international engagements this year.The return leg against DR Congo is scheduled for June 3, 2025, at the same venue.
