The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has officially launched a National Innovation Award aimed at engaging Tanzanians in contributing innovative ideas on how to broaden the country’s tax base by identifying new and untapped sources of tax revenue.
The launch ceremony was held today, May 8, 2025, in Dar es Salaam and was officiated by the Deputy Minister in the President’s Office for Planning and Investment, Stanislaus Nyongo, during the inaugural National Tax Symposium.
In his remarks, Hon. Nyongo emphasized the importance of public participation in enhancing domestic revenue collection, noting that the initiative provides an excellent opportunity for Tanzanians especially the youth to showcase their creativity and contribute to national development.
“We have many talented and innovative young people graduating from our universities. This is your opportunity seize it not only to earn recognition and rewards but also to support your country in building a stronger and more sustainable tax system for current and future generations,” he said.
TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, announced that the Authority has allocated TZS 200 million for this initiative.
Outstanding proposals that demonstrate strong potential for impact will be awarded, with top contributors receiving prizes starting from TZS 20 million.
The submission window for innovative tax ideas will open on May 9, 2025, and close on June 15, 2025. Winners will be publicly announced following the evaluation of all entries.
Mr. Mwenda called on all citizens to actively participate in this initiative and play a role in shaping a more inclusive and efficient tax system.
