On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, the Treasury Registrar of Tanzania, Mr Nehemiah Mchechu, led investment talks with Mr Soren Toft, the Chief Executive Officer of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).
The meeting was held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, during the Africa CEO Forum.
The discussions focused on two ports; the Dar es Salaam Port and the Mangapwani Port in Zanzibar.
MSC is a global shipping company based in Geneva, Switzerland. The company showed strong interest in investing in Tanzania’s port infrastructure and services.
Both sides discussed how they could work together to improve the two ports. These ports are important for Tanzania’s economy and for trade in East Africa.
Mr Pascal Maganga, Director of Finance and Administration at the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), said Tanzania is ready to support MSC.
He said the country is committed to creating a friendly environment for investors.
Mr Toft said MSC is ready to partner with Tanzania. He highlighted the importance of the two ports for trade in East Africa.
Tanzania is working with international companies on big projects. These projects aim to grow the economy and create jobs for Tanzanians.
