The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has urged Tanzanians to build a habit of harvesting rainwater every rainy season.
Speaking today in Dodoma today (May 16), EWURA Director General Dr. James Andilie said rainwater can help people during dry seasons. He added that the water can be used for farming, livestock, and home needs.
“Rainwater harvesting stops water from being wasted. Instead, it is collected and stored for later use,” said Dr. Andilie.
He said the goal is to help people understand the benefits of using rainwater. He also said it can be a good backup source for water authorities.
EWURA is responsible for regulating clean water and sanitation services in Tanzania. One of its duties is to make sure water production and supply are improved.
Dr. Andilie said EWURA started encouraging rainwater harvesting in May 2023.
