Tanzania, Mozambique strengthen blue economy ties through high-level talks in Zanzibar

Zanzibar — Tanzania’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Hamad K. Hamad, has held high-level discussions with the Minister of Blue Economy and Fisheries of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Shaaban A. 

Othman, as part of a broader effort to deepen economic cooperation between Tanzania, including Zanzibar and the Republic of Mozambique.

The talks, which took place in Zanzibar, focused on strengthening partnerships in key sectors such as fisheries, marine farming (aquaculture), and oil and gas. 

Both sides agreed that enhancing cooperation in these areas would bring mutual economic and social benefits.

Ambassador Hamad emphasized that Tanzania and Mozambique share a wealth of similar opportunities in the blue economy, particularly due to their extensive coastlines and rich marine resources. 

He noted that joint initiatives could help both countries maximize the sustainable use of their ocean resources to boost economic growth and improve livelihoods.

For his part, Minister Shaaban reaffirmed Zanzibar’s commitment to working closely with Mozambique to unlock the potential of the blue economy. 

He said that strategic cooperation could accelerate development and support the region’s shared goals for sustainable marine resource management.

“These talks mark a crucial step in implementing economic diplomacy aimed at tapping into the full potential of our ocean resources for the benefit of our people,” said Minister Shaaban.

The meeting reflects both countries’ growing interest in the blue economy as a key driver of inclusive development, regional integration, and long-term resilience.
