Dar es Salaam— The President of the United Republic of Tanzania,Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to strengthening economic and strategic ties with Namibia.
This follows a high-level meeting with Namibian President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah during her official state visit to Tanzania.
President Samia emphasized the shared ambition of both nations to enhance trade relations and attract large-scale investment projects.
She noted that trade between Tanzania and Namibia has grown from TZS 3 billion to TZS 17 billion by 2024, but highlighted the untapped potential that remains.
“While this growth is commendable, it is still far below what is possible given the opportunities available,” she said.
The two Heads of State agreed to deepen cooperation across various sectors, including education, health, mining, and tourism.
President Samia underscored the role of the private sector as a key driver of economic development and poverty reduction.
She urged Namibian investors to explore Tanzania’s vast opportunities, particularly in high-value sectors such as minerals, healthcare, and tourism.
A key highlight of the bilateral talks was the announcement of a new educational partnership between the Open University of Tanzania and the University of Namibia.
The collaboration aims to promote Kiswahili language learning, strengthen cultural ties, and support regional integration through academic exchange.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah, for her part, expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and affirmed Namibia’s commitment to a strong, future-focused partnership.
She revealed that a Namibian delegation of industry leaders recently visited Tanzania to learn from its economic development strategies.
She also looked forward to engaging with students during her address at the University of Dar es Salaam, where she plans to encourage youth involvement in national and regional development.
Both leaders pledged to promote joint initiatives that ensure the sustainable extraction and equitable distribution of mineral resources, supporting industrial growth across the Southern African region.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s two-day visit marks a significant chapter in the long-standing friendship between Tanzania and Namibia.
As both nations work toward shared development goals, this renewed cooperation is expected to bring tangible benefits to their people and set a model for regional collaboration in Africa.
