Administrative Secretaries from various institutions across Tanzania have commended the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) for providing crucial education on the use of clean electric energy for cooking.
The initiative aims to reduce reliance on unsafe and environmentally harmful fuels such as firewood and charcoal.
The remarks were made on May 15, 2025, during a visit to the TANESCO pavilion at the ongoing exhibition held at Ngurudoto Grounds in Arumeru District, Arusha Region.
Many attendees acknowledged that, due to limited awareness, they had previously been hesitant to use electricity for cooking fearing high costs and the risks associated with uncertified electrical appliances. However, the visit to TANESCO's pavilion changed their perceptions.
At the pavilion, they were introduced to modern, energy-efficient electric cooking appliances such as induction cookers and electric pressure cookers.
These appliances consume less power while offering faster and safer cooking, encouraging many to consider making the switch to clean electric cooking solutions.
“Today I received valuable education on the benefits of cooking with electricity. The cookers on display are not only modern and efficient but also help save time and electricity compared to traditional models,” said Adventina Kajuna, Administrative Secretary and Reporter at ELCT Kagera.
TANESCO’s Marketing Officer, Ms. Adelina Lyakurwa, emphasized that the organization's participation in the event was part of its broader effort to promote the adoption of clean cooking energy among both professionals and the general public.
She noted that electricity is a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fuels.
“We used this opportunity during the National Administrative Secretaries’ Conference to promote the Clean Cooking Energy Agenda initiated by Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania. We’ve encouraged both conference participants and the public to adopt clean electric cooking, as it is faster, more affordable, and better for the environment,” Ms. Lyakurwa said.
TANESCO’s commitment to the initiative was further recognized at the conference, as the organization received an award for having the highest number of participants at the 12th Annual Meeting of the Tanzania Association of Personal Secretaries (TAPSEA). More than 90 Administrative Secretaries from TANESCO attended the event.
The award was presented by the Vice President of Tanzania, Dr. Philip Mpango, and received on behalf of TANESCO by Ms. Adelina Lyakurwa and Ms. Lucy Kishari, Administrative Secretary from TANESCO’s Morogoro Regional Office.
