The Conservation Commissioner of Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA), Musa Nassoro Kuji, on May 12, 2025, officially swore in nine newly promoted Assistant Conservation Commissioners. The ceremony was held at TANAPA’s headquarters in Arusha.
The move aims to improve leadership, strengthen conservation efforts, and increase efficiency in managing Tanzania’s national parks.
Speaking during the event, Commissioner Kuji emphasized the importance of professionalism, hard work, and listening to others in leadership roles.
"Go and work with dedication and professionalism, while honoring the oaths you have taken today. A good leader listens to the ideas of the people they lead," said Commissioner Kuji.
The newly promoted officers will support TANAPA’s mission to ensure sustainable conservation and promote tourism in the country's protected areas.
Speaking on behalf of the new commissioners, Assistant Conservation Commissioner Simon Aweda—who also heads Burigi-Chato National Park—expressed gratitude to TANAPA’s Board of Trustees and leadership.
"On behalf of my fellow commissioners, I would like to thank the Board and management for trusting us. We are committed to delivering high-quality work and contributing to sustainable conservation and tourism growth," said Aweda.
The nine officers promoted are: Simon Aweda, Catherine Mbena, Marckyfarreny Rwezaula, Nuhu Masay, Glads Ng’umbi, Dr. Halima Kiwango, Halid Mngofi, Catherine Mwamage and Julius Rutainurwa.
This promotion exercise is part of TANAPA’s broader strategy to build strong leadership teams across its national parks and ensure the effective protection of Tanzania’s rich natural heritage.
