Simba FC continued their strong push towards the top of the league table with a hard-fought 2-1 win over KMC at the KMC Complex Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The victory brought Simba to 69 points, just one point behind league leaders Yanga, who sit atop with 70 points. With the title race intensifying, this win proved crucial for Simba’s ambitions to reclaim the top spot.
KMC made an early statement when Rashid Chambo gave them the lead in the 8th minute. A quick counterattack caught Simba’s defense off guard, allowing Chambo to fire past goalkeeper Moussa Camara.
Despite the setback, Simba responded with confidence. In the 15th minute, Steven Mukwala showed his clinical finishing ability, firing the ball into the back of the net to equalize for Simba.
“I think it was important for us to remain calm after conceding that early goal,” said Mukwala. “We knew we had the ability to come back, and we did just that. It was a team effort.”
The match remained evenly balanced until the 47th minute of the second half, when Mukwala struck again. His composed finish put Simba ahead 2-1, and this time, they never looked back.
“Starting the second half with a goal was key. It gave us the momentum to take control of the game,” Mukwala added.
KMC, to their credit, kept pushing for an equalizer, but Simba’s defense, led by Camara, was resolute. The goalkeeper made several crucial saves, including one late on that kept the visitors from finding a way back into the game.
Simba’s coach praised his team’s resilience, saying, “Every win is important, especially one like this. We stayed focused, even when things weren’t going our way early on, and we got the result we wanted. The title race is still on, and we’ll continue fighting until the very end.”
With just one point separating Simba from Yanga, the title race is heating up, and Simba’s determination in this match only adds to the growing anticipation as the season heads into its final stages.
