Dar es Salaam – The Regional Commissioner (RC) of Dar es Salaam, Albert Chalamila, today officially launched and handed over two brand new government vehicles one for the Regional Administrative Secretary and another for the Ilala District Commissioner.
He urged the officials to use the vehicles effectively to serve citizens and resolve community challenges.
“These vehicles are not for personal luxury,” said RC Chalamila during the handover ceremony held in Dar es Salaam.
“They are tools for public service. I expect to see them on the ground, serving our people, reaching neighborhoods, and solving problems.”he added
The vehicles were donated by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan as part of the government’s broader commitment to improve service delivery and implement the country’s National Development Vision.
“The President has shown her commitment by equipping our leaders with the means to serve the people better. It is now our duty to ensure that this support translates into real change in people’s lives,” Chalamila added.
He also expressed gratitude to President Samia for approving funds in the current financial year for the construction of a dedicated Regional Commissioner’s office.
Currently, the office is housed within the same premises as the Ilala District Commissioner’s office a situation he described as unsustainable.
“This development will greatly improve administrative efficiency. It reflects the government’s recognition of Dar es Salaam’s growing needs and importance,” said Chalamila.
In light of the upcoming general election scheduled for October 2025, the RC also emphasized the need for leaders and citizens to take voter information updates seriously.
“This is an election year. It is critical that every eligible citizen updates their records in time to participate in this democratic process,” he said. “I urge all leaders to actively mobilize their communities in the remaining days.”
Acting Regional Administrative Secretary Mr. Laurance Malangwa assured the Commissioner that the vehicles will be used responsibly and maintained according to government protocols.
“We are committed to using these vehicles strictly for official duties,” said Malangwa. “We will follow all legal and operational guidelines to ensure they serve the region for years to come.”
Ilala District Commissioner Edward Mpogolo echoed the RC’s sentiments, pledging to bring services closer to the people.
“These vehicles will allow us to respond faster to citizen concerns,” said Mpogolo. “We will make sure that they directly contribute to improving lives in Ilala District. We will also continue reminding our citizens to update their information for the upcoming election.”
The launch marks a significant step in strengthening local governance and service delivery in Tanzania’s largest city.
