Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has officially handed over the Controller and Auditor General’s (CAG) Report for the 2023/2024 financial year to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Zubeir Ali Maulid.
The handover ceremony was held at Ikulu (State House) in Zanzibar, where President Mwinyi emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
“This report is a vital tool in promoting good governance and ensuring public resources are managed responsibly. It reflects our continued commitment to transparency and accountability,” said President Mwinyi during the brief ceremony.
The Speaker, Zubeir Ali Maulid, expressed appreciation for the timely submission of the report, noting its significance in strengthening the oversight role of the legislature.
“We commend the Office of the Auditor General for its diligence. This report will now be tabled before the House for discussion and necessary follow-up,” he said.
The CAG report, which covers government expenditure and financial performance for the fiscal year ending June 2024, will be presented to the House of Representatives for deliberation, a crucial step in ensuring checks and balances within public institutions.
“The findings and recommendations of this report will guide us in correcting inefficiencies and improving public financial management,” added the Speaker.
The timely release and handover of the report underscores the Zanzibar government’s effort to uphold financial discipline and reinforce trust in public institutions.
