The government has officially announced that a special incentive, known as “Goli la Mama” (Mother’s Goal), will be awarded during the final match of the Higher Education Sports League and Samia Cup, scheduled to take place on May 10 at the KMC Complex Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The much-anticipated final will feature the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) taking on the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT).
The third-place playoff will see Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) face off against St. Joseph University, both matches set to be played at the same venue.
Speaking on Sunday night, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and Government Spokesperson Mr. Gerson Msigwa, confirmed the inclusion of the “Goli la Mama” initiative.
He noted that it will benefit the top four teams in the tournament: the champions, runners-up, third-place, and fourth-place finishers.
Mr. Msigwa explained that the exact value or details of the “Goli la Mama” prize will be revealed on the day of the final.
He encouraged participants and fans alike to show strong support and enthusiasm, emphasizing that the initiative is aimed at honoring President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
“I’m pleased to officially announce that the final will feature Goli la Mama. What we need now is excitement and energy to make our President proud. What may seem like a small effort to us is actually a meaningful contribution and Goli la Mama carries a lot of weight,” he said.
He further emphasized the need for increased attention to university sports, pledging that the Ministry will coordinate closely with institutions to ensure better organization and collaboration in the next edition of the tournament.
The event will also involve the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and Premier League clubs, who are expected to attend and scout for talent among university players.
Meanwhile, the tournament’s organizer, Mr. Cornerio Swai Director of Conel Investment expressed gratitude to the government for its support, and to President Samia for allowing her name to be associated with the tournament.
