The Speaker of the Parliament of Tanzania, Dr. Tulia Ackson, has announced that she will run for Member of Parliament (MP) in the new Uyole constituency in Mbeya Region. The general election will be held in October this year.
Dr. Tulia, who is also the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and current MP for Mbeya Urban, made the announcement on May 23, 2025.
She was speaking at a special meeting of the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), in the district.
She said she decided to run because development in Uyole is moving too slowly, and she wants to help speed things up and serve the people better.
“Progress in Uyole is very slow,” said Dr. Tulia. “I want to fully dedicate myself to making sure the people of Uyole get the services and development they need. Many people will come to ask for your support choose a true leader, choose someone who will serve you. That will help bring real change to our community.”she added
