Dar es Salaam – In a move aimed at streamlining fare collection and improving passenger convenience, the Dar Rapid Transit (DART) Agency has announced a sharp reduction in the price of its commuter fare card.
Effective May 17, 2025, the DART fare card will be available for just Sh1,000 (One Thousand Tanzanian Shillings), a significant drop that is expected to make the service more accessible to a wider range of commuters.
According to a public statement issued by the agency, the fare card price cut is part of a broader initiative to enhance service delivery and encourage the transition from paper tickets to a modern, cashless payment system.
As part of this shift, DART will officially phase out the use of paper tickets by June 30, 2025. After this date, only passengers using fare cards will be allowed to board DART buses. However, the announcement noted that this new requirement will not apply to students, who will continue using the existing system.
DART is urging all regular passengers to secure their fare cards early to ensure uninterrupted travel and to enjoy the benefits of faster and more reliable boarding.
The announcement was released by the Unit of Communication and Community Relations on behalf of the DART Agency on May 16, 2025.
