Cleopa Msuya’s body arrives in Mwanga ahead of state burial

The body of the late Cleopa David Msuya, former Prime Minister and First Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania (retired), arrived today, May 12, 2025, at the Cleopa David Msuya Grounds in Mwanga District, Kilimanjaro Region, for an official public farewell.

The body arrived at around 10:00 a.m., accompanied by a convoy of various government officials, military officers, and family members. 

The event followed a special program coordinated by the government in collaboration with the late leader’s family.

Hundreds of residents from Mwanga and surrounding areas gathered early to witness the historic occasion. 

Some held placards reading, “Thank you Mzee Msuya for your exemplary service.” While expressing their sorrow over the loss, many also expressed pride in the legacy of integrity he left behind.

Several leaders who delivered their condolences described the late Msuya as a wise, humble leader who always prioritized the interests of the people. 

They noted that the nation has lost a great treasure, but the values and principles he upheld will continue to guide current and future generations of leaders.

The burial is scheduled to take place on May 13, 2025, in his home village of Kirimeni, Mwanga District, where various leaders and citizens are expected to gather to pay their final respects.
