Azam FC made an impressive start to their campaign in the NBC U20 Premier League, securing a convincing 4-2 win over Kengold in their quarterfinal clash held on May 19, 2025, at the Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam.
Azam opened the scoring in the 16th minute through Ashrafu Shabani, setting the tone early in the match. Just a minute later, Adinani Rashid doubled the lead with a clinical finish, giving Azam a 2-0 advantage.
The young Azam side continued their attacking dominance, and in the 43rd minute, Mohamed Ismail added a third goal to cap off a brilliant first half. The teams went into halftime with Azam firmly in control, leading 3-0.
Kengold returned in the second half with renewed energy, trying to press forward and protect their goal from further damage.
However, Azam’s relentless pressure paid off once again in the 48th minute, when Carlos William netted the fourth goal.
Despite the four-goal deficit, Kengold showed fighting spirit. Popah Richard scored twice first in the 54th minute and again in the 80th to reduce the deficit and restore some pride for his side.In another fixture on the same day, Simba SC played to a 1-1 draw.
The NBC U20 Premier League continues tomorrow, with Kagera Sugar set to face Fountain Gate, while Yanga SC will clash with Tanzania Prisons.
