Arusha investment projects double as confidence grows

The Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) has recorded a sharp increase in the number of investment projects registered in the Arusha Region, from 31 in 2023 to 64 in 2024.

This impressive surge represents the highest regional growth in the country and signals a growing investor confidence in Arusha’s economic potential.

Speaking during the Arusha Economic Forum, TIC Executive Director Mr. Gilead Teri attributed the growth to the centre’s deliberate efforts to decentralize its services by establishing a zonal office in Arusha.

"One of the most impactful steps we took was to bring our services closer to the people. By opening a regional office here in Arusha, we have not only improved accessibility but also enhanced the efficiency and speed of project registration,” said Mr. Teri.

The tourism sector emerged as the leading contributor to this growth, with registered projects increasing from 16 in 2023 to 34 in 2024.

This increase underscores Arusha’s strategic position as the epicenter of Tanzania’s tourism industry, home to major attractions such as Mount Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National Park, and Ngorongoro Crater.

“This rise in tourism-related investments is not by accident,” Mr. Teri noted. “It reflects the confidence that both local and foreign investors have in the region’s potential. It also shows that our reforms are working.”

Mr. Teri further emphasized TIC’s broader mission to attract and facilitate investment across all sectors, not just tourism. “We are committed to creating a business friendly environment throughout the country.

Our goal is to ensure that Tanzanians are not only aware of the opportunities but are also actively participating in them.”

He encouraged more local entrepreneurs to step forward. “Investment is not just for foreign companies. Tanzanians must also take ownership of their economy. The time to act is now.”

With a continued focus on decentralization, infrastructure improvement, and investor support, TIC aims to replicate Arusha’s success in other regions across Tanzania.
