A delegation from Zambia’s National Assembly Committee on National Economic Affairs, Trade, and Labor has arrived in Tanzania for a study tour aimed at gaining insights into best practices and effective management systems in the mining sector, which has become a crucial pillar of Tanzania’s economy in recent years.
Tanzania has drawn attention from countries across Sub-Saharan Africa due to the significant reforms in its mining industry under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
These reforms are focused on improving the governance of mineral resources, empowering local miners, and creating an investor-friendly environment to attract international investors.
Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly received by the Minister for Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, on April 9, 2025.
The following day, the delegation had the opportunity to attend a presentation by the Tanzania Minerals Commission, which highlighted the establishment of mineral markets and buying centers across the country.
Terence Ngole, Assistant Commissioner of Minerals for Local Content and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), informed the delegation that Tanzania has launched 43 mineral markets and over 109 mineral buying centers nationwide.
"These initiatives have been instrumental in addressing the issue of mineral smuggling, boosting government revenue through taxes, and providing miners with a guaranteed market and fair pricing for their minerals," Ngole stated.
In response, the head of the Zambian delegation, Sibeso Kakoma Sefulo, explained why Zambia had chosen to learn from Tanzania.
"We decided to visit Tanzania because of the remarkable success the country has achieved in transforming its mining sector," she said.
She further praised Tanzania’s mineral market system and buying centers, adding, "These initiatives have had a profound positive impact on the country’s mining sector, and we will certainly recommend these models to the Zambian government. We believe this system could bring substantial benefits to Zambia’s mining industry as well."
