The Government has called on citizens and stakeholders, both locally and internationally, to seize the opportunity to provide feedback and submit proposals aimed at improving the country’s tax policies. This is part of the ongoing efforts to gather insights that will help drive economic growth.

The call was made by the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Elijah Mwandumbya, during a press briefing at the Small Treasury Office in Arusha, ahead of the Second National Tax and Investment Conference, scheduled to take place in Dar es Salaam on April 15, 2025.

Mr. Mwandumbya highlighted the significant role the Tax Conference has played in improving the tax system. He noted that stakeholder involvement has grown in the preparations for the 2024/2025 Government Budget, bringing a variety of economic benefits.

"Under the leadership of our President,  Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, significant strides have been made since 2022. Through various policy reforms, over 293 projects were registered with the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) in 2022. In 2023, this number increased to over 526 projects, and in 2024, more than 901 projects were registered," said Mr. Mwandumbya.

He also provided insights into domestic revenue growth, noting that for the fiscal year 2022/2023, domestic revenue totaled TZS 26.3 trillion, and in 2023/2024, it rose to TZS 29.8 trillion, reflecting a 13.5% increase.

Additionally, between July 2024 and February 2025, domestic revenue amounted to TZS 22.579 trillion.

This year’s National Tax Conference is expected to involve more than 1,000 stakeholders from various sectors, including tax and investment experts, to continue enhancing the tax system with the ultimate goal of strengthening the country's economy and benefiting citizens as a whole.

"Our mission is to engage citizens, entrepreneurs, and various stakeholders in collecting valuable feedback for the country's development. This year, we are focused on increasing the mobilization of domestic resources by fostering opportunities for our citizens," Mr. Mwandumbya emphasized.

The Government launched the National Tax and Investment Dialogue in 2023, which serves as a key platform for public engagement and gathering input on ways to improve the national tax system.
