Tanzanian pool players to compete in World Heyball finals

Five talented pool players from Tanzania are set to compete on the world stage at the prestigious Heyball Masters Grand Finals, which will take place from April 24 to May 17, 2025, in Chengdu, China.

The players Abdallah Hussein, Dotto Mashiku, Nobert Kobelota, Ambele Steven, and Jackson Stevenwill represent Tanzania in the international tournament, which attracts elite players from across the globe. Their participation marks a significant milestone for Tanzania’s growing pool scene.

Speaking to The Respondent Online on April 15, 2025, the Secretary General of the Tanzania Pool Association (TAPA), Abdallah Omar Abdallah, confirmed that all preparations for the trip have been completed. The team is scheduled to depart on April 22 via Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam.

“These five players earned their spots through a series of highly competitive national qualifiers. They demonstrated outstanding skill, discipline, and consistency, which gave us confidence in their ability to represent the country with pride,” Abdallah said.

He noted that the players have been undergoing intense training in recent weeks to sharpen their skills and build mental toughness ahead of the tournament. According to him, the team is well-prepared and motivated to make a strong impression in China.

“This is a great opportunity not only for the players but also for the entire pool community in Tanzania. Competing internationally gives our athletes the exposure and experience they need to elevate their performance,” he added.

Abdallah also revealed that the overall winner of the Heyball Masters Grand Finals will take home a cash prize of USD 700,000 one of the largest in the sport's history.

He expressed gratitude to sponsors, partners, and sports authorities who made it possible for the players to travel and compete in the global tournament.

“This achievement is a reflection of the hard work and investment being made to develop cue sports in Tanzania. We believe our players will give their best and put the country on the map,” he concluded.

The Heyball Masters Grand Finals is known for its high level of competition and professional standards, and Tanzania’s participation signifies a growing recognition of the country's talent in the world of pool.
