The Tanzania women’s national futsal team has arrived safely in Casablanca, Morocco, ahead of their much-anticipated debut in the 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, scheduled to kick off on April 22.

This marks a significant milestone for the team, which will be representing Tanzania for the first time in the continental futsal tournament. The squad departed the country yesterday, filled with energy and determination as they embark on what promises to be a learning and competitive experience.

Team delegation head Zena Chande confirmed the team’s safe arrival and reported that all players are in good health, with no injuries to worry about.

“There are no injuries, and all players are in good condition,” Chande said. “The coach has expressed satisfaction with the team's readiness after a full month of intensive training in camp. The players are mentally and physically prepared to compete.”

The team is set to continue their journey from Casablanca to Rabat, the official host city for the tournament. Rabat will serve as the competition center where the matches will take place.

“We have just arrived in Casablanca today and tomorrow we proceed to Rabat, where the tournament will be held,” said Chande.

She further noted that the players are motivated and committed to putting up a strong performance despite this being their first appearance at the AFCON stage. “They have promised to do their best and take this as an opportunity to learn from other more experienced nations.”

Tanzania has been drawn into Group C alongside Senegal and Madagascar—two teams with more established footprints in African futsal. Despite the tough draw, the team remains focused on delivering a competitive performance and showcasing the growing talent in women’s futsal back home.

As the countdown to the tournament begins, all eyes will be on the Tanzanian team to see how they rise to the occasion and use this platform to elevate the profile of women's futsal in East Africa.
