The value of trade between Tanzania and Pakistan has reached USD 290 million, according to the Ambassador of Pakistan to Tanzania, Siraj Ahmad Khan. He made the remarks during celebrations to mark Pakistan’s National Day in Dar es Salaam.
The event commemorated the historic decision made in 1940 by Muslims in the Indian subcontinent, under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, to form an independent state where they could live freely and practice their religion without fear. This vision led to the creation of Pakistan, which officially gained independence on August 14, 1947.
Since then, Pakistan has grown into a modern Islamic republic, making strides in various sectors of development.
Bilateral relations between Tanzania and Pakistan began in 1967 with the establishment of the Pakistani Embassy in Dar es Salaam.
Although the embassy was closed in 2000 due to various reasons, it was reopened in 2009, paving the way for renewed diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two nations.
Speaking at the event, Tanzania’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Cosato Chumi, highlighted the growing economic partnership between the countries.
"This strong collaboration has significantly boosted trade and investment in Tanzania. Over USD 248 million has been invested in key sectors including transport, agriculture, and services," he said.
He further noted that "Pakistan’s investments have reached around TZS 423 billion in recent years, demonstrating the depth of our economic and diplomatic ties."
The Deputy Minister also emphasized the impact of the bilateral political consultations held in 2024.
"These consultations have played a vital role in strengthening our social, economic, and diplomatic relations. We look forward to more structured engagement in the years to come," he added.
In his remarks, Ambassador Siraj Ahmad Khan reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening its partnership with Tanzania.
"We are committed to deepening our cooperation and exploring new avenues for collaboration that will benefit the people of both countries," said the Ambassador.
This year’s celebration marked 85 years since the Pakistan Resolution of 1940, a pivotal moment that laid the foundation for the nation’s pursuit of political self-determination.
