Dodoma Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule has revealed that the Uhuru Torch will cover a distance of 1,350 kilometers across all seven districts and eight local government authorities in the region as it passes through projects worth over TSh 61.1 billion.
She made the announcement on April 20, 2025, during a ceremony held at the CCM Grounds in Kibaigwa Ward, Kongwa District, where she officially received the torch from Morogoro Regional Commissioner Adam Malima.
“The Dodoma Region is implementing major strategic projects that the public needs to be aware of,” said Commissioner Senyamule. “These include the ongoing construction of the Government City in Mtumba, which is now 70 percent complete, and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), whose first phase was officially launched in October 2024.”
She also highlighted progress on the Msalato International Airport, where the passenger terminal is 53 percent complete, while the runway construction has reached 86 percent. The outer ring road surrounding Dodoma City is in its final construction stages.
In addition, she noted the development of irrigation schemes under the “Jenga Kesho Iliyo Bora” (Build a Better Tomorrow) program, with six projects currently ongoing across the region’s districts.
“The construction of a national sports complex, including a modern football stadium with a budget of TSh 310 billion, is also underway. Moreover, we are finalizing the headquarters of key government institutions and have set up an aflatoxin removal center for agricultural produce, which has added value to crops being exported abroad,” Senyamule added.
The Uhuru Torch race for 2025 is being held under the national theme: “Come Forward to Participate in the 2025 General Election Peacefully and Calmly.” The Dodoma Regional Commissioner emphasized that the region is fully committed to supporting and implementing the message behind this year’s campaign.
As part of the preparations for the general elections, she said, the region is engaging in several civic activities, including registering citizens in the Permanent Voters’ Register, encouraging voters to keep their voting cards safe, and urging eligible individuals to vie for leadership positions.
“We are also mobilizing citizens to attend campaign meetings, cast their votes on election day, and avoid any acts that may disrupt peace and unity in the country,” she concluded.
